Allergy-Check Advice for YOU

Allergies are so common that over 20% of Americans are said to suffer from some kind of allergy or other.

Allergy-check is a collection of web pages about significant allergy issues, and some of the more common allergies, including:

Allergens (Allergy Triggers)
Allergy Symptoms
Allergy Medicines
Allergy Relief Products
Food Allergies
Wheat Allergy
Gluten Allergy
Skin Allergy - And Many Other Allergies
An allergy is an over reaction by the body’s immune system, caused for example, by some chemical substance or by eating certain foods, such as peanuts or shellfish, that a person is allergic to.

These substances or foods, or whatever else triggers an allergic reaction, are known collectively as allergens.  Therefore, an allergic symptom, such as hay fever, is triggered by pollen, which is a common allergen.

There are four basic routes by which allergens can enter the body.

1Eating certain foods
2. Inhalation - As with pollen or dust mites
3. Injection – e.g. Allergy to penicillin
4. Absorption through the skin, e.g. chemicals and plants

The symptoms range from being mildly uncomfortable, as in sneezing, to potentially very serious, as in the condition known as anaphylaxis.  Although serious implications can be fatal, most people receive successful emergency treatment.

Allergy is an enormous problem, as there are between 40 and 50 million people in the United States who are allergic to something.

We have gathered information about allergies from various sources.  Prevention is always better than cure, although with allergy it could be that, avoidance is better than cure.

It is unlikely that allergic people will always be able to avoid all the allergens that provoke their particular symptoms.  In fact they will not always know, because it is possible to become allergic to a different allergen at any time, and that even applies to those who have never had a previous allergic reaction.

To be forewarned helps to become forearmed, and we hope that you will find something of interest within these web pages, which will be reviewed and expanded.

Thank you for visiting our web site.
